Programs

“How beautiful it is to find someone who asks for nothing but your
company.” – Brigette Nicole (writer)

As a new and evolving Foundation, the Jackie L. Michael Foundation is reviewing local, area and regional animal needs, challenges and opportunities and prioritizing them that best fit our mission.  We believe the most effective programs involve collaborations at all levels – helping all involved to leverage their resources for optimal results.  Our Foundation headquarters have been designed to house programming – as well as the Foundation conducting specialized programs offsite.

Advocacy

We are advocates for animals and the people, organizations, institutions and corporations that have a passion for animals of all types – from smiley to grumpy.

Education

Education is a priority for children and adults regarding the respect, love and empathy that all animals deserve. We are having meetings regarding the development of educational programs for elementary students. We hope to develop presentations for pre-schools in addition to elementary and possibly middle schools. We believe reaching the youth will begin building the foundation for more knowledgeable, compassionate and caring pet owners in the future – making the best decisions for their pets.

Youth

The Foundation is developing collaborative educational programs that will teach preschool and K-12 students the responsibilities of pet ownership and respecting our animal friends.

Speaker’s Bureau / Presentations

The Foundation Speaker’s Bureau is available to speak to all types of area groups and organizations regarding the Foundation, our mission, current programs, area challenges and opportunities, animal needs, plus ways to collaborate.

Veterinary Technician Career Services

Although no schools in East Central Indiana offer degrees or certification in the career of veterinary technician, the Foundation is developing a strategy to advocate for the creating of such programs by local area institutions. We will work with area veterinarians in placing interested students as interns to apply their academic and laboratory educations in real situations.

Pets for the Elderly

Research shows that senior citizens who have a pet are healthier, live longer with a better quality of life. We can direct you to shelters that can help you select an appropriate pet for your needs and capabilities.

Pets for Patriots & Vets Adopt Pets

There are several programs available that coordinate pet placements for our military service veterans.

BSU Student Pets

Because of their season residency, occasionally Ball State students’ pet ownership offers challenges and opportunities. A future program will connect BSU students and their pets with people who will foster care them during vacations and perhaps following graduation. This program will help reduce the real, but heartbreaking reality, of students abandoning their pets at these times.

Feral Cats

The feral cat issue is an important problem for which we are developing plans to address in the areas of health, sterilization, the dumping of cats, disease, over-population plus other issues and how we can address them through collaborations.

Wild Animal Control / Rescue

The Foundation defers to specialists in rescue situations and where wild animals are causing health dangers, property damage or becoming a
nuisance.

Although the Foundation is concerned about wild animals in their natural environments, we work with professionals and specialists regarding injured animals and other issues.
