Resources

“Petting, scratching and cuddling a dog could be as soothing to the mind and heart as deep meditation, and almost as good for the soul as prayer.” – Dean Koontz (writer)

Part of the Foundation’s educational mission is to make available lists of interested providers offering specific animal services – acting as a go-to resource for most everything animal in the local area.  By furnishing this resource, we do not endorse the contacts nor favor one over another. The information is offered for your reference and convenience.

Adopting a Pet

Pet adoption enhances a person’s or a family’s life and enjoyment – developing companionship, respect and responsibility.  There is always a plentiful supply of animals for all types, shapes, colors, sizes and personalities awaiting their forever home.

  1. Saving a life. The number of dogs and cats euthanized each year is heart-breaking.
  2. You help break the cycle of pet over-population – most adopted pets have been spayed or neutered.
  3. You can take advantage of the many benefits of adopting an adult animal – as most are house trained.
  4. You are adopting a pet that has received good care.
  5. You are supporting your community. You are sending a message to others, as they will be asking you for years to come, where you obtained your awesome pet.
  6. You pay less – low adoption fees.
  7. There are not enough homes for all the animals born each year – so you become an important part of the solution – and offer hope to all animals to have the home and life they deserve.
  8. An animal’s love is unconditional.

“Saving one cat or dog will not change the world, but for one cat or dog – their world will change forever”

Fostering

The Foundation endorses short to intermediate term pet fostering for interested persons.  Fostering of pets is growing in popularity.  It helps address shelter overcrowding and calms an animal’s anxiety by being in a single home dwelling.  It also provides an opportunity to see if a family will be able to be a forever home to a pet, shelters, plus many people just like the concept of being an active foster pet parent.  Fostering is a game-changer for local shelters such as ARF, providing foster families for pets with special needs.

Training / Behavioral Resources

A well-behaved pet is much more enjoyable for the family as well as others.  We believe that pets of any age (not so much with cats – right, cat owners?) can learn.  A well-trained pet is better behaved and causes less stress on the owner and family as well as the pet.

Pets with Disabilities

It is not uncommon for a pet to be born with, or develop a disability.

Science and technology has come a long way in helping to address many pet disabilities, offering an improved quality of life.  If your pet has such a need, please contact the Foundation.  We may be able to offer some suggestions.

Pet Safety / Home & Predators

Today, safety is greater than worrying about a pet being hit by a car. New concerns involve predators such as hawks, foxes and coyotes and environmental contaminants.

Hospice, Suffering, Quality of Dying

As with humans, pets suffering from a terminal condition may utilize hospice styled services with the end goal of reducing suffering and respecting the life of the pet and the love of the pet’s family.

Grieving / Pet Loss Support Group

Pets are family members, so when a pet passes away people grieve – it s a natural process.  The Foundation is planning to sponsor a support group in which the participants, people who have lost a pet, can support each other and they go through their own grieving process.

Surrender a Pet

While ARF wishes that we could help every animal in need, there are times when we are unable to take a pet or a stray animal that you have found. ARF will intake surrendered animals whenever we can if:

  1. The animal is not aggressive toward other animals or people.
  2. We have adequate space.
  3. The animal is relatively healthy.

Furthermore, every situation with every animal is unique. Learn more about surrendering an animal here.
